How to Choose Straight-edge & Decorative Scissors
with Michelle Hartjes

As you have probably seen, there are hundreds of different types and brands of scissors around, both straight-edge and decorative, and you probably have some at home already. However, there are a few things you need to keep in mind if you are looking to buy a pair of scissor or decorative scissors.

What we recommend:
> Provocraft Small Craft Scissors
> Fiskars Soft-Touch Scissors
> Metal decorative scissors

There are lots of different styles of straight-edge scissors on the market. My favourite is the Provocraft small scissors which are easy to carry, and comes in funky pink and green colors. The Fiskars Soft-Touch Scissors are spring-loaded, so when you are cutting, you are pushing in to cut which is great for a lot of fine detailed cutting as it will prevent your hand getting sore.

Decorative scissors or paper edgers are now very popular giving scrapbookers the option of creating decalled, scalloped and other patterns when cutting. Many of the decorative scissors we see are the plastic variety which are more prone to breaking than the metal versions. So if you want a longer lasting, superior quality decorative scissor that will cut through a wider range of materials, I would recommend investing in the metal versions.
