What we thought...
Sometimes you find a book that just resonates with you. You feel like you have been looking for it forever and finally it reveals itself to you. That’s how we felt when we found this book. We love it!
Written by the totally talented Cathy Zielske, it simplifies the sometimes complicated layouts we do and shows us what is at their core – that is, the visuals that we wish to remember and the beautiful words that go with them. Cathy’s gift, and prior occupation, is journalism, so she brings a true understanding and perspective to her advice on journaling. And she brings design principles from magazines and books to her pages which probably explains why they look so beautiful and always seem balanced.
Yes, it is also about design and artistic flair, but this book shows that simple can be just as beautiful (if not more so!) as very complex “worked-on” pages. If you are new to scrapbooking, this is also a great starting point where you can do gorgeous pages without having to worry about lots of embellishments.
We particularly liked...
The way the book is laid out with each chapter covering an important aspect such as the design of the page, journaling, photography, fonts and more. We learned a lot about planning pages and how to’s for our photography. Also important for me was the learnings about journaling (Cathy has such a beautiful way with words!) and the desire to experiment more with fonts on my computer.
I also appreciated the way that Cathy imparted her knowledge from a personal perspective and it was with warmth and sincerity that she takes you through the processes she uses herself when she is scrapbooking.
'Clean & Simple Scrapbooking' has certainly given me a new perspective and confidence in my scrapbooking!
